How to Make a UPI QR Code for Your Shop
· 3 min read
A UPI QR code lets customers pay you by scanning it with any UPI app. You can make a simple one in a minute. This guide shows how, and the mistakes to avoid. QRzify is not affiliated with NPCI, BHIM or any UPI app, and QRzify does not process or hold any payments. The code simply opens the customer's own UPI app.
What a UPI QR code contains
A UPI QR code stores a payment link with your UPI ID, the name you want customers to see, and optionally an amount and a note. When someone scans it, their UPI app opens with those details filled in, and the money goes straight from their account to yours.
Step 1: collect your details
You need your UPI ID, which looks like name@bank, and the name that should appear when customers pay. Use the same name as your shop so customers recognise it and feel safe paying.
Step 2: generate the code
Open the free UPI generator, enter your UPI ID and name, and leave the amount empty if customers will type their own. Add a fixed amount only for a single product, such as a parking fee or a fixed ticket price.
Step 3: style it carefully
Keep a dark code on a light background. Fancy colours are fine, but low contrast makes the code hard to scan. Do not add the logos of UPI apps or banks, which you may not be allowed to use.
Step 4: test before printing
Scan your code with several UPI apps on different phones, and make a small real payment to yourself or a friend to confirm the name and the money arrive correctly. Do this before you print in volume.
Step 5: place it well
Print it large enough to scan from a short distance, put it at the counter where customers are already standing, and protect it from glare and wear. Replace it if the corners get scratched.
Tips and cautions
- A static UPI code is fine for most small shops. For high volume, check whether your bank offers a merchant QR with extra reporting.
- Never share a code that shows someone else's UPI ID.
- If you ever change your UPI ID, you will need a new code, because the ID is stored in the pattern.
- Warn staff to check the payment notification on their phone before handing over goods, rather than trusting a customer's screenshot.
Where QRzify helps
The generator is free and works in your browser, so your UPI details are never sent to us. If you later want a code that you can track and edit for 7 days, for example to link to a payment page, create a dynamic code.
